A Little Jazz Group With A Big Band Sound

The Lighthouse Little Big Band consists of  musicians who meet regularly as a "rehearsal band" with the purpose of increasing their skills and sharing the excitement of ensemble and improvisational playing. We meet at the home of Peter Gemski, the band leader and valve trombonist. Bill Doyle and Jim Murphy share the spotlight on drums and Anneke Toomey is our wonderful pianist. I round out the rhythm section on upright acoustic bass and write arrangements for the band along with Peter Gemski. Together we have each written at least a dozen charts for this group.  The excellent horn section has Bob Olds on trumpet, Steve Willard on alto sax, Barry Kelsey on tenor sax, and Bruce Scott on baritone sax. All are super talented jazz musicians. The featured arrangement "Baroque Samba" is a unique combination of a five horn choral followed by an up tempo samba. The tune was written by Darmon Meader of the famous vocal group, New York Voices. I bought the vocal arrangement and adapted it for our eight piece bands' instrumentation. It was fun to write, arrange and play this challenging piece of music and I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening, Frank
